Beyond Coping: Why willpower isn't the way

It’s summer 2016 and I find myself under a hidden bridge using drugs at work with some dude I barely know. I don’t consider myself a liar yet I found myself lying to the person I cared for me the most — my husband. Yikes!

To be honest, I hated working at StatsCan — not because it’s a bad place to work (just ask my husband), but because the speed and temperament of bureaucracy does not map to mine.

So the intelligent thing to do is to learn how to cope with my intolerable reality, right?

I found drugs helped me do just that.

Until, of course, they destroyed my nervous system and I couldn’t even sit still for a few minutes, never mind experience a version of myself as healed, happy, and whole.

Now, in addition to lacking meaning in my life, I also had the added problem of addiction—and everything that came with it.

So I did what everyone who is seeking help in our society is taught to do:

  • I went to therapy.

  • I sat in one-hour sessions.

  • I took prescriptions.

  • I listened and participated in the rooms of Narcotics Anonymous and Refuge Recovery.

  • I went to meditation retreats.

  • I pursued yoga therapy (and eventually certification).

  • I went to retreats.

I found different ways to cope — until I got bored or triggered again and the cycle would start all over.

Here’s the truth that no one seems to want to say out loud: Coping mechanisms are still cages. Some are just shinier and more trendy than others (more on the now acceptable social construct of drugs-as-healers for another day).

A bit about my story here

The cultural norm

We live in a world that praises resilience and rewards performance. The more you can “hold it together”, no matter if you’re falling appart inside, the more likely you are to be seen as strong, competent, and successful. The more likely you are to be rewarded for self-betrayal.

So people find ways to cope. But coping isn’t the same as healing.

Coping keeps you functioning in a reality that’s misaligned with your truth. It helps you endure, manage, suppress — but it does not address the core of the missalignment — aka, the disconnect from Self.

That’s where transfomration comes in. But transformation demands of you not to function better in a broken system, but to recognize that the fact that the system itself isn’t designed to support you in your becoming.

In other words — you are not crazy; what drives you to crazy is the systems we have built that are too small for our essence. So we find ways to cope. See how the cycle plays out?!

What’s possible

For me, transformation didn’t come from a plan, a diagnosis, or a program.

It came from something far much simpler, yet so much more profound. And lasting.

It came from shifting my paradigm about what I am as a human being — something very few teach as a possibility, and fewer still teach it as a way of life.

You see, we all know of coping mechanisms — nervous system regulations, tapping, meditating, breathing techniques.

But there’s a difference between techniques and a process of becoming.

That’s what Quantum TLC™ is. It is not a strategy — it is a foundational way of life. This matters because it makes this process your birthright (hence why it works).

But that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Most people stay caught in endless cycles of coping because they don’t know what else is possible. But if you’re willing to go deeper through the layers to remember who you are beneath the noise—this might be the place for you.

Give up trying to fix yourself and begin listening to the deeper truth your body has been whispering (or screaming) all along.

I believe none of us are broken, but instead we are misaligned (and misdirected).

We dont’ need better ways to cope, we need a way to live from the truth of who we are.

That’s what the WEL-Systems® approach gave me—a map to reclaim my own internal cues, decode the architecture of my own mind, and begin making choices not from the limitations of my history… but from the possibility of my potential.

I’m not here to survive this life.

I’m here to live it. Fully. Freely. And on my own terms.

And so are you…

Beyond coping …

What lives beyond coping is life.

What lives beyond settiling is aliveness.

What lives beyong survival is thrival.

I spent years in what some people call “the dark night of the soul” … more like decades. I know what it’s like to be so fucking desperate that I’d do anything to change. I looked everywhere I could for how to complete the puzzle of fixing myself, only to discover I am already whole.

It wasn’t me that needed fixing — it was my mindset that needed shifting.

I was never broken or deficient — I was merely taught to settle for survival and coping.

It wasn’t that I was dumb or broken for not knowing how to fit the pieces together—it’s that the pieces available in society are designed for coping. They speak to content—what you think, what you feel—but not to the logical process of how it all works.

And don’t even get me started on willpower. That’s not a strategy—it’s a setup for failure, dressed up as discipline.

So if you’re a person who doesn’t need more coping strategies layered on top of each other, do yourself a huge favor and purchase this. Let yourself discover the power of deeper embodiment, how to trust and live from your body's intelligence so you can stop merely coping—and start living fully alive.

If it’s possible for me after a decade steeped in addiction (ETC…), it’s possible for you, too. I promise you — there is much more life to be lived beyond coping …

So start your journey of stransformation that doesn't come from strategy—but from remembering the truth of who you are.

If coping isn’t cutting it, maybe it’s time to listen somewhere else — inward. The Truth Beneath the Noise is a free 10-day email and audio experience to help you slow down go inward. This is not to fix yourself, but to give voice to what’s true, beneath all teh noise.
